Setting Ponyboy Curtis just got out of the movie theater thinking of Paul Newman and a way home. While he was thinking of that a Corvair pulled up to him and 5 Socs got out. One of the Socs told Ponyboy that he wanted to do him a favor to give him a haircut. As Ponyboy was trying to run away the Socs catch up and pin him to the ground and hold a switchblade to his neck. When they are about to cut him, Darry and Sodapop come to help Ponyboy from the Socs. The Socs run off and Ponyboy only had a cut under his chin.
Conflict • After Ponyboy and Johnny have a visit from Dally at the Church in Windrixville they go out to get some food. After they ate ,they went back to the church and saw a bunch of people surrounding the front of the church. The church was on fire. They don’t know what had happened, but Ponyboy and Johnny asked people. After they heard that there is children in the burning church they go running inside to go save them. Summary of Plot • The story describes a gang conflict in Tulsa, Oklahoma, between the Socs (pronounced "soashes"), rich kids from Tulsa's affluent Southside neighborhood (today's Midtown), and the Greasers, boys from poor families who live on the west side of the railroad tracks.
Theme • ’’Fighting is Useless. It doesn’t answer every promblem.’’ • Text Evidence 1:"You can't win, even if you whip us. You'll still be where you were before--at the bottom... So it doesn't do any good, the fighting and the killing... Greasers will still be greasers and Socs will still be Socs. Page 117 • Text Evidence 2:’’I killed him,’’he said slowly.’’I killed that boy.’’ Page 56
Point of View • The point of view in The Outsiders in is First Person. In First Person, you know what the main character is thinking and feeling. If the story was in a different point of view you wouldn’t know what the main and other characters are REALLY feeling and thinking.
Symbolism • This picture symbolizes how the greasers stay together no matter what happends to them. if they didn’t stay together , the boys would be seperated.
Recommendation • I recommend you to read The Outsiders because it shows you the point of view of a member of the Greasers and what he has to go through. It has a lot of flashbacks from bad memories and greats memories.
