Setting the streets that were dull and dark nighty double theater church school The settings especially the streets made the story easy to relate to.
Conflict Ponyboys older brother Darrell hits Ponyboy which results in Ponyboy and his best friend Johnny running away to a park. While at the park they are spotted by Socs which starts a gang war!
Summary of Plot • A gang of kids named the Greasers fighting another gang called the Socs ends up in deaths on both sides. It’s a dramatic story of courage and violence.
Theme • Although this novel has many themes I think the main theme is ranking classes. • “how’d you like that haircut just below the neck?” Ch1 pg 5 • “this church gave me a kind of creepy feeling.” ch 4 pg 57 • ”I had a knife.” “I killed bob.” ch 11 pg165
Point of View This story is told in 2nd person. If it would have been told in another perspective the story would be different.
Symbolism • The illustration below represents the unfortunate ending for some of the characters due to the intense lifestyle of a greaser.
Recommendation • I would recommend this coming of age novel due to it being such a good book. It’s very suspenseful and hard to put down.
