KEY FOUNDING FATHERS The most important Colony founders that we discovered were the English colonists. They founded New Jersey, South Carolina, and Virginia. The English colonists that found Virginia sailed a ship there. Some of the people out of 104 people on that ship were John Smith, Captain Newport, and Captain Christopher.
Daily Colonel Life • The daily life for a colonist was much stricter than life today.
RELIGION • MIDDLE • The middle colonists had a mixture of religions. There were Quakers, Catholics, Lutherans, Jews and others. • SOUTHERN • The Southern colonists mandated Virginians to worship in the Angelican Church. Virginia did not tolerat non-Christians • NEW ENGLAND • The New England colonists were Puritans who lived very striked lives. They came to live Gods laws.
FARMING!!! • Farming was VERY important!!! In the Middle colonies farming was famous. They grew wheat, corn, and oats. They also raised farm animals like cows, chickens, pigs, and sheep. Farming in the Southern colonies was also important. The soil was very good for the Southern colonists plantations. Farming in the New England colonies was hard because of all the trees and rocky soil. So the colonists were very stricked about farming.
SLAVERY • In the Middle colonies marriage was not encouraged among the slaves by their owners. Most slaves were field hands but there were also house servants. The house servants lived in better conditions though. In the Southern colonies slaves worked on big plantations. Slavery was actually legal back then!! In New England slaves arrived in 1619. They were called servants not slaves.
