Benefits of service learning • Helps the community • Makes the community more familiar with the athletes and more willing to support the sports teams • Students gain hands-on experience • Create a professional network of people who can help with jobs, etc in the future
Lowndes County Animal Shelter • We helped bathe the dogs • We walked them and played with them • Gave puppies and a chick their vaccines • Played with the Cats
American Red Cross • Our softball team helped with setting up the blood drive • We also recruited people to give blood • We also gave our own blood
Blazing Through Books • Valdosta State University Literacy kicked off Blazing Through Books this fall • We worked with Valdosta area children age K-5 • We met Mondays and Wednesdays to help them with their reading
Blazer Blast • Annual event hosted by the Valdosta State University Baseball and Softball team • Teach children the basic fundamentals of throwing, catching, hitting and sliding • Signed autographs
What I’ve Gained • Became familiar with more members of the community • Helped those in need • I Got hands on experience • I Got to spend time with kids
