  1. HIV human immunodeficiency virus • HIV transmission can occur when fluids containing HIV from an infected person enter the body of an uninfected person. These fluids include: • Blood • Semen • Pre-seminal fluid • Vaginal fluid • Breast milk

  2. AIDS acquired immunodeficiency syndrome AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection. People at this stage have badly damaged immune systems, which put them at risk for opportunistic infections

  3. HIV transmission From mother to her infant during pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding Unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person (vaginal, anal, oral) Sharing of contaminated needles, syringes or other sharp instruments Transfusion of contaminated blood

  4. HIV cannot be transmitted by Hugging, kissing Using the same bathrooms, swimming pools with infected person Saliva, sweat, tears, urine Animals, insects Using the same dishes

  10. Treatment Antiretroviral treatment (ARV)

  11. Protection • Using condoms during sexual intercourse • Using disinfected medical instruments and single-use syringes and needles • Using own tooth-brush and shaver without sharing it with others

  12. Things to remember • Do not use more that one condom at the same time • Infection can be transmitted even during one unprotected sexual intercourse • HIV doesn’t have symptoms • After unprotected sexual intercourse or broken cases visit National Center for AIDS Prevention for free HIV testing (after the window period) • Be faithful!
