Skill 7: Contributing to Discussions Our Steps: Step 1: Decide if you have something you want to say. Step 2: Ask yourself, “Is this related to the discussion?” Step 3: Decide exactly what you want to say. Step 4: Raise your hand. Step 5: When you are called on, say what you want to say.
Skill 7: Contributing to Discussions Step 1: Decide if you have something you want to say. When there is a discussion going on, sometimes it is hard to know if you want to say something. This is why step one is so important. It allows you to think about if you want to contribute to the discussion.
Skill 7: Contributing to Discussions Step 2: Ask yourself, “Is this related to the discussion?” When you do contribute to a class discussion, it is crucial that your comments are relevant to the discussion. What are some examples of relevant comments?
Skill 7: Contributing to Discussions Step 3: Decide exactly what you want to say. Before you make your comments, think about what you want to say and how you should say it. This will help your comments make sense. Why is it important to think about how to say something when contributing to a class discussion?
Skill 7: Contributing to Discussions Step 4: Raise your hand. Raise your hand and wait to be called on before you make your comments. This shows respect to your teacher and fellow classmates! Why is it not a good idea to just blurt out an idea? Is it ever OK to yell out an answer?
