  4. Skill 16: Ending a Conversation Step 1: Decide if you need to end the conversation You are acting responsible when you can decide that it is time to end a conversation. When are some times that you as a student need to end a conversation at school? How about if you are talking with a friend at home? What if you were at home, when would you have to end a conversation with your family?

  5. Skill 16: Ending a Conversation Step 2: Decide what to say First, ask yourself, what is the reason you have to end a conversation? Let’s say you have to go in from recess, you can tell your friend “I have to go now, but I’ll talk to you later. “ How about if you are in class and you need to do your work, what could you say? You can say, “I have to do my work.” Can you think what else you can say if you need to end a conversation?

  6. Skill 16: Ending a Conversation Step 3: Wait until the other person stops talking. If you can avoid it, it is a good idea to wait until the other person stops talking. This way you will not be interrupting him or her. Why do you think that this might be important for you as well as the other person?

  7. Skill 16: Ending a Conversation Step 4: Say it in a friendly way Remember…body language and other nonverbal communication is real important! You need to match your tone of voice with any facial expressions so the other person knows you are talking in a friendly way. Can you give an example of how to end a conversation in a friendly way?
