Iraqi Government • Iraq has a type of Government called a Parliamentary Democracy • Iraq has a 3 branch Government where they elect their officials • chief of state: President Jalal TALABANI ; Vice Presidents Adil ABD AL-MAHDI and Tariq al-HASHIMI note - the president and vice presidents comprise the Presidency Council) • head of government: Prime Minister Nuri al-MALIKI Rafi al-ISSAWI cabinet: 36 ministers appointed by the Presidency Council, plus Prime Minister Nuri al-MALIKI and Deputy Prime Ministers Barham SALIH and Rafi al-ISSAWI • elections: held 15 December 2005 to elect a 275-member Council of Representatives

  4. Is the deBa’athification commission still functioning? • To an extent. Despite Bremer's order to disband the commission, Chalabi led a successful effort in mid-2004 to keep it running. He argued that, because the commission is enshrined in Iraq's interim constitution, Bremer did not have the authority to shut it down. The commission presented its case to the Iraqi National Council, the interim government's 100-member advisory body. Allawi, meanwhile, has taken steps to weaken the commission and has reportedly ignored many of its recommendations. • The new Government of Iraq decided to remove all ex Ba’thists from Government

  5. Iraq Military • The Iraqi Military and Iraqi Police are functional • The Iraqi Security Forces(ISF) is now in control of maintaining order in Iraq

  6. Abu Gharib Incidents • Prisoners were subjected to severe physical and psychological abuse. The abuse included sleep deprivation, forced stress positions, forced nudity, using dogs to scare and bite prisoners, death threats and sexual abuse. • George W. Bush claimed the acts were in no way indicative of normal or acceptable practices in the United States Army. • Lynndie England is the most known person for abusing the prisoners and is seen in may photographs torturing prisoners

The 2008 election & troop levels • In 2008 Barack Obama a democrat was voted the United States President and is against the war. • At this moment he is still deciding on whether to send more troops to Iraq and Afghanistan • If the troops are sent over it will cost the United States up 50 billion dollars a year • At this point there are thousands of troops already in Afghanistan and Iraq and our Government is not sure if they are willing to send 40,000 more

  8. “No End In Sight” & Extra Questions • What most surprised me about the film was the poor decision making of our Government • I was most angered that innocent American soldiers and Iraqis had to die • One question I still have is when we will be out of the war and what reason did we really go into Iraq • I believe that every American deserves to know the truth about Iraq and that there shouldn’t be any secrets in our country • I believe that our Country has learned a lesson but I do not think we could apply the information to new situations, but instead use it to keep us out of the situations

  9. The War • As of right now the war has crippled the United States • We have spent billions of dollars and lost thousands of troops and the chaos continues in Iraq • Hopefully some day we can resolve the problems and have everyone be peaceful
