Mentor selection procedure IM/OML • It is compulsory for students to register for participation in the mentor selection, prior to the mentor selection information meeting. Students can register in OASE, course code 1MC00. • 19 Nov – 26 Nov: orientation • 26 Nov – 7 Dec: free market: make appointmentswith mentors; interviews mentor – student, no commitments • 10 Dec – 25 Jan: mentor/student decisionsif match, then student fills in mentor selection form and hands it in at educationadministration office • 10 Dec – 25 Jan: students without mentor continue their search • 25 Jan : students without mentor willbeallocated a mentor
Mentor selection procedure IM/OML • Student applies at group/mentor • Student can apply (take interviews) at multiple mentors simultaneously • Note that it can happen that a mentor receives too many requests for interviews; then the mentor may reject some interview requests • Mentor decides on student autonomously
Mentor guidance during Master program • Month 1: start of Master program • Month 3-5: application to one of the mentors • discuss with mentor general interest, and electives program for second and third semester, including international term (formal approval) • Month 6-17: Master Thesis preparation • meet bimonthly with mentor to discuss research topic and questions, possible company involvement • role of mentor is role model researcher,accompanies the student in selecting a good(design-oriented) research question • Month 18-24: Master Thesis (full time) • guidance during thesis project
Final qualifications of Master program • Disciplinary knowledge • Independently conduct a research project (thesis project) • development of new knowledge and insights in a purposeful and methodical way • Construct a (re)design of a business process, based on this research project • synthetic activity aimed at the realisation of new/modified artefacts, creating value in accordance with predefined requirements
