Purpose of the Pilot • Continue our productive BEA/BSD collaboration • Thoughtfully implement and align a coherent evaluation system • Include a wide variety of voices in the process • Support teachers and principals throughout the implementation, so that they are successful with the new evaluation criteria & requirements
If I was in the pilot, I would want to know who was included… • At least 20% of all classroom teachers must participate in the pilot across the District • Included in the 20% - all non-continuing & provisional teachers and ALL principals & assistant principals • ESAs, Librarians, certificated teachers in non-teaching assignments are NOT included
If I was in the pilot, I would want to know how were teachers selected? • The TPEP team created a program which randomly selected 250 continuing contract teachers to invite to participate in the pilot • Parameters included: • At least 3 participants per administrator • Cross section teachers - elementary, middle, high, etc. • Cross section of content
What happens after the pilot invitations are sent out? • Invitations to be sent in late April • Invited continuing contract teachers can choose or decline to participate • Any continuing contract teacher who is NOT invited to participate through random selection may opt into the pilot. This is an individual teacher decision. • All non-continuing & provisional teachers must participate • RSVP by May 11, 2012
The evaluation uses research-based rubrics . http://sharepoint/sites/Curriculum/TPEP/Danielson%20Documents/Forms/AllItems.aspx

Other Advantages Teachers who participate in the pilot will… • Have a strong voice in the process • Engage deeply in the new system well ahead of state requirements • Receive professional development and support in multiple ways • Collaborate and learn with colleagues
What are things to consider in making this decision? • Learning Curve for a new process • 1st Generation – Pioneer • Unknowns in the process and system • Time spent collaborating and learning (now vs. later?) • Comfort level/type of person you are?
