Preparatory Actions to the UN High-Level Meeting • WHO Consultations in each region (MOH) • Regional NCD Consultation Obesity, MOH (Mexico, Feb) • Side Events at ECOSOC (Gender, Population & Development, and Indigenous Issues) • Global Civil Society groups issued declarations: (GHC, Lancet NCD Action Group). • Moscow Healthy Lifestyles & NCD Control Declaration (Global meeting MOH, April) • WHO informal hearings with UN Agencies • World Economic Forum (April) • ARUBA: Pan American Conference on the Prevention of Obesity throughout life
Purpose • To undertake a stakeholders meeting on obesity prevention with the participation of different sectors • To mobilze Policy Makers, Public Sectors, the Academia and the Civil society to achieve the prevention of obesity and related NCDs throughout life as a development goal for the American region • To call for action as a contribution to the UN GA H-L meeting on NCDs as a development objective
Key Issues • Healthy Diet, Physical Activity and Healthy Growth • Primary Prevention (individuals at risk) and Primordial Prevention ( population at “risk of risks”) prioritizing vulnerable sub-groups • To focus on the determinant of “obesogenic environment” • Multisectoral / Multilevel focus • Life-Course approach, “start early and continue at all ages” • Obesity in the context of the American Region • To engage decision makers and politicians
