BIO201: Introductory Biology – Cells, Winter 2004 A scientific research report is a form of communication which succinctly presents and interprets data collected in an investigation. *Independent investigation based on either Fermentation lab (Feb. 4th) or Respiration lab (Feb. 9th) Introduction: *concisely describe the purpose of the investigation *question(s) you are attempting to answer *the general method used *briefly review past research that has been done Materials and Methods: *explain the experiment so that it can be duplicated *avoid unnecessary details *experimental design Results: *present the data in a straightforward manner *data are generally organized into tables and/or figures Discussion: *explain the meaning of the results Conclusion: *partially repeats the Results and the Discussion *briefly state what the data showed (from Results) and the major conclusions developed (from Discussion)
