OVERVIEW Strong partnerships with the health care industry, the community, and the institutes of higher education enable the Academy of Health Careers to prepare future health care professionals. Academy seniors may earn a Health Science Portfolio which signifies successful completion of the National Health Care Skills Standards as specified by the Florida Department of Education, United States Department of Education, and National Consortium of Health Science and Technology Education. Academy graduates earn a diploma with specific magnet distinction and medal.

OVERVIEW • The Academy of Health Careers offers a comprehensive rigorous academic program of college preparation and uniquely relevant curriculum for students who plan to pursue a career as a health care professional. • Academic courses are combined with the opportunity to gain the initial “building blocks” of health care through Health Science education.

PROGRAM FEATURES cont’d Health Science courses which provide the “first building blocks” of health care preparation State certifications Hands on clinical experience in area hospitals, medical offices, emergency medicine facilities, veterinary health care sites including the Central Florida Zoo Career exposure through job shadow & clinical experiences

  7. Required Curriculum 2012-2013 4 English 4 Math 4 Science 4 Social Studies 2 Foreign Language 1 Physical Education (0.5 Personal Fitness) 1 Fine Arts 1 Health Science course grades 9-11 Double-block Health Science classes for seniors

  8. New Programming for Seniors • Health and Wellness track that will include Care and Prevention of Athletic Injuries • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) offering for seniors • Certified Nursing Assistant and Allied Health programs will remain in place

  13. TRANSPORTATION Buses provided for all students who live 2 miles or more from school. Afternoon activities buses available.

  14. ELIGIBILITY Students who have successfully completed 8th grade and reside in Seminole County are eligible to apply for admission to the Academy of Health Careers. Please don’t forget to APPLY to the CHOICES office!

  15. ACADEMY STANDARDS Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and earn no semester grade below a “C”. Students must demonstrate appropriate behavior. Students must have good attendance.
