Why Engage Faculty with the School Culture Typology Activity • Engaging activity to begin the conversation • Develop initial understanding of culture in general • Identify the type of culture present in the school • Reflect upon impact of the culture on student success • Stimulate a discussion of strategies (action plan to address existing culture)

  3. Components of the Activity • Randomly mix teachers six to a table • Teachers complete School Culture Typology Individual Worksheet and write name on back • Mix teachers randomly into triads • In triads, teachers independently read and highlight key concepts from the Culture Research Summary then discuss • Each member of triad is given a different school typology example to study and a copy of typology descriptions. • Triads discuss differences in the three schools and then do whole group share out • Teachers return to their original tables and compile table perspective of their school by reaching consensus using the Typology Consensus worksheet • Table groups discuss their school’s culture using the Culture Typology Reflection Worksheet • Facilitators lead a whole group discussion about the primary and secondary typology tendencies and perspective on the three reflection questions • Facilitators collect each table’s Consensus Typology Worksheet and their consensus Reflection Worksheet.

  4. Follow-up/Action Planning • Principal/teacher-leader team compile findings from the faculty discussion and the Culture Typology Reflection Sheets • Team identifies the predominant culture types • Team compiles results of the reflection questions • Team shares above with faculty in writing and leads a discussion to finalize action plan
