Context • In the last 10 years there has been: • 32% increase in births across the borough • 42% increase in births in Acton • Between 2005-06 (2010 reception intake) and 2010- 11 (2015 intake) there has been: • 15% increase in births across the borough • 33% increase in births in Acton • Pre-school population (0-4 yrs) has grown by 32% since 2001 • A greater proportion of pupils born in the borough are seeking school places (currently at a 20 year high)
What the council are doing Primary schools • Permanently expanding by 32FE across borough (25FE additional agreed since 2008) • New schools and expansion of existing schools • Ensuring pupils are offered places near to their homes Secondary schools • New high school opening in Greenford in September 2013 • Looking for sites for a new high school in Ealing/ Acton SEN • Agreed expansion of 3 special schools • New additionally resourced provision
Plans Locally Agreed • 2FE Catholic primary school in West Acton, opened in 2012 • 2FE School at Priory Centre, due to open in September 2013 • 1FE expansion at Berrymede Infant and Junior • 1FE expansion at West Acton plus SEN provision • 1FE expansion at St. Gregory’s Catholic Primary • 1FE expansion at Christ the Saviour CE Primary Proposed • 1FE expansion at West Twyford (subject to consultation) Based on latest data, further expansions and new schools are likely to be required beyond the existing expansion programme
Proposals for West Twyford Bulge class • Governing Body have agreed to accommodate local demand with an additional reception class in 2012 and 2013 Permanent expansion • Have developed initial proposals for permanent expansion • There would be new classrooms, group spaces, offices etc. (as well as additional staff) • School and council keen to maintain amount of green space available • Plans would be shared with parents/ carers and local residents as they develop
Consultation and next steps May 2013 • Consultation period (until 24th May) Summer 2013 • Council and Governing Body consider consultation feedback and determine whether to publish statutory proposals for expansion • If proceed further expansion notices would be published and there would be a further opportunity to have your say • The council’s cabinet (elected members) would make the final decision • A planning consultation would also be carried out with residents
