  1. Research Problem

  2. Research Question • Research Question: Do case studies improve learning outcomes as outlined by course objectives in the area of content knowledge and application of that knowledge? • Research Context: Anatomy and Physiology I course; students in a large lecture (n = or < 100). First semester of a basic science required for nursing program • Students are a mix of traditionally and non-traditionally aged. Some students are practitioners already at lower level (CNA or AND). • My question is interesting because: I want to know if content is actually learned. Most studies in this area use really broad assessments like exam grade, course grade or opinions. I want to do item analysis.

  3. Research Methodology • Compare pre-existing data with new data following intervention (use of case studies) Data will be analysis of responses on questions designed to capture learning objectives

  4. Alignment of Research Question and Methodology I will analyze correct responses on certain MC items as indication of “learning” content knowledge. I will use written explanations offered as to why student chose certain response (eliminates guessing variable). I will compare with data from past semesters.
