  1. Update on IC Standards ActivitiesRABC Meetings May 2006 Hughes Nappert

  2. Current Activities Recently Published: • RSS-GEN Issue 1 – General Requirements for Equipment Certification • RSS-102 Issue 2 – RF exposure compliance (radio equipment) • RSS-119 - Land Mobile and Fixed Radio Transmitters and Receivers, 27.41 to 960 MHz (published in April 2006) • RSS-133 Issue 3- 2 GHz Personal Communication Services • RSS-132 Issue 2 - 800 MHz Cellular Telephones Employing New Technologies • RSS-210 Issue 6– Low Power, Licence-Exempt Devices (Category I) • RSS-213 Issue 2 - 2 GHz Licence Exempt Personal Communications Service Devices (LEPCS) • RSS-243 Issue 2 – Active Medical Implant Devices • RSS-310 Issue 1 - Low Power, Licence-Exempt Devices (Category II) DGSE/DCE

  3. Current Activities (2) Revisions in progress: • RSS-GEN – General Requirements for Equipment Certification • RSS-1xx - New standard for public safety equipment in the 4.9 GHz band • RSS-118 - Land and Subscriber Stations: Voice, Data and Tone Modulated, Angle Modulation Radiotelephone Transmitters and Receivers Operating in the Cellular Mobile Bands 824 - 849 MHz and 869 - 894 MHz (reformat and simplify) • RSS-130 – Digital Cordless Telephones In the Band 944 to 948.5 MHz (to be withdrawn) • RSS-142 – Narrowband Multipoint Communication Systems in the 1427-1430 MHz and 1493.4-1496.5 (update frequencies, discussing limits - need input from RABC) • RSS-181 - Coast and Ship Station Single Sideband Radiotelephone Transmitters and Receivers Operating in the 1,605 - 28,000 kHz Band (old standard - need input from the RABC) • RSS-187 - EPIRBs, ELTs, PLBs, MSL (almost ready for publication) DGSE/DCE

  4. Current Activities (3) Revisions in progress continued: • RSS-191 - Local Multipoint Communication Systems in the 28 GHz Band; Point-to-Point and Point-to-Multipoint Broadband Communication Systems in the 24 GHz and 38 GHz Bands (proposal to remove certification requirement – IC discussing) • RSS-192 - 3.5-3.6 GHz Wireless – On-Hold - Waiting for information from Industry (waiting for information) • RSS-210– Low Power, Licence-Exempt Devices (Category I) • RSS-212 - Test Facilities and Test Methods for Radio Equipment (to be withdrawn) • RSS-310 - Low-power Licence-exempt Radiocommunication Devices (All Frequency Bands): Category II Equipment • RSP-100 - Radio Equipment Certification Procedure

  5. Other Issues Future work • Revise or develop new RSSs to reflect the new spectrum policy below 1.7 GHz as appropriate • New technologies (e.g. UWB, WiMax, SDR/CR, BPL, etc.) • Reformat remaining RSSs to address changes (re: RSS-Gen) DGSE/DCE

  6. Update on ICES 1) ICES-001 (ISM) will be revised to incorporate by reference CAN/CSA-CEI/CIE CISPR 11:04 as the new referenced standard for limits and method of measurement of radio noise emissions from ISM equipment – Ready to Gazette 2)ICES-002 (Spark Ignition Systems) will be revised to incorporate by reference CSA adoption of CISPR 12, 5th edition as the new referenced standard for limits and method of measurement of radio noise emissions from spark ignition systems 3)ICES-003 (Digital Apparatus) • The Department is awaiting the publication of CISPR 22, 5th edition and its adoption by CSA. • A new issue of the ICES-003 will be issued, to incorporate by reference the new version of CISPR 22 for limits and method of measurement of radio noise emissions from digital apparatus. 4) ICES-004 (Alternating Current High Voltage Power Systems) • Minor modification to French version 5) ICES-005 (RF lighting) will be revised to harmonize conducted noise limits with those of the FCC.
