Original Bridge 114M 200M 300M 200M 114M Y 60M x
Measurements 470 x 1566.66 1 Cross Multiply 470.1 = x 470 = Depth in cm We used a scale of 1566.66 1566.66 1 x= 0.3 cm Depth' to 1, to find the length, depth, and width of the new bridge's deck, along with the length of the legs 84,800 = x 84, 800 = Length in cm of the bridge. After we set up our 1566.66 1 x= 54.13 cm Length' equations, we cross multiplied to find the new values. 2,660 = x 2,660 = width in cm 1566.66 1 x=1.698 cm Width' 6,000 = x 6,000 = Leg's Length in cm 1566.66 1 x= 3.829 cm Leg’s Length'
Volume LxWxH 106016.96 + 12(60xy) + 12z 106016.96 + 720xy + 12z • x=width of leg • y=depth of leg • z=foundation of the leg (what the leg stands on) We used X,Y and Z values because we couldn't find the width or depth of the legs or any measurements of the foundation
Surface Area 53334.84 + 12[2(60y+60x) + surface area of z - 2xy] 53334.84 + 1440y + 1440x + 12(surface area of z) – 24xy We found the area of each visible side of the bridge and simply added it together. Then we subtracted the area of the bridge that was unseen.
Summary Of Scale Model To Original Structure Scale Model: • Depth' 0.3cm • Length' 54.1276cm • Width' 1.6978cm • Leg's length' 3.829cm • Scale =1566.66 : 1 O:N Original: • Depth 4.70m or 470 cm • Length 848m or 84,800 cm • Width 26.60m or 2,600 cm • Leg's length 60m or 6,000 cm Surface Area of the scaled model X 1566.66^2 = surface area of the original bridge... volume of the the scaled bridge X 1566.66^3 = volume of the original bridge
Three Observations / Conjectures • All the legs are congruent, definition of congruent/corresponding angle theorem • The legs to the deck are perpendicular , definition of perpendicular lines. • The deck is a parallelogram, definition of a parallelogram.
