  3. Charge to the Committee • The LCLS undulator system requires very stable supports in order to achieve the desired system stability over long periods of time. From the floor upward the supports consist of • A fixed support base pedestal • A transition plate which allows field adjustments of carried components • Cam movers for fine remote position control • And a girder system supported on the cam movers

  4. This review will focus on the support system from the floor up to the base of the cam movers. Although the committee should feel free to comment on all aspects of the items being review, we would like to have in particular comments on the following aspects of the design • Can the system, as designed, achieve the required stability performance? Of particular importance is the stability in time of the supports when subjected to expected temperature swings. • Is the pedestal sufficiently stiff, both mechanically and thermally? • Is the mounting of the pedestal to the floor sound? • Will installation be straightforward? • Is the concept used to provide field adjustment of the above mounted girder a sensible concept? • Four vs. three points of contact and x/y/z positioning • Sizing of all transition piece components • Ease of use during survey and alignment • Durability over time • Please comment on the ease of use during survey and alignment • Is the concept for mounting the cam movers to the transition piece sound?

  5. We will use your input to further develop the design into a final design that will be the primary support for the LCLS undulator system. Any and all of your comments are welcome. We would like to have a written report delivered to us within 2 weeks time.
