Cyber Safety • The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) • The Gaggle Safety Pledge • ABCUSD’s online Cybersafety program • Students to complete on own • Reports to provided to school for monitoring • Student accounts suspended if program not complete • A school could incorporate the Cyber Safety effort as part of the TGR (NET 6 - Digital Citizenship)

  5. Students • Username Convention • first_last@myabcusd.org • Activation Letters • A Generic Welcome Letter • User Name: first_last@myabcusd.org • Password: yyyymmdd (student’s birthday) • Requires Log-in & Change of Password

Teachers • Username Convention • first.last@myabcusd.org • Activation Letters • Individualized Welcome Letters • User Name: first.last@myabcusd.org • Password: Assigned by IT (security purposes) • Requires Log-in & Change of Password • New Teachers • Requires Tech Authorization Request Form • Account info provided via GroupWise

  7. Key Administrative Settings • Student email is filtered. Teachers email is NOT • All Gaggle functionsare limited to the school • Digital Lockers Max = 200MB • Maximum # of Recipients / Email = 35 • Language Translation is ON • The Filter only filters English and Spanish • 1st Defense: Students retrieve own passwords!

  8. Administrative Settings • Teachers are set as “enhanced teachers” • Principal is the “school master” • Support Admin are “school administrators” • SITS and STC’s are “school administrators” • Gaggle Mail may be forwarded to GroupWise • Schools may tighten “rules” higher than district's

Administrative Settings • Schools may add to “Blocked Word List” • via the school administrator(s) • or forward words to raf.waites@abcusd.k12.ca.us • Digital Lockers may cause bandwidth issues • Homework boxes named by assignment / teacher • Dial “2help” on any district phone for direct Gaggle assistance from Raf or David • Gaggle interacts with cell phones as a primary device

Default School Administrators • School Administrators by grade Level • By default, these administrators will: • receive all flagged messages HMS • receive emergency phones call HMS • Will facilitate disciplinary actions w/ students • Due Sept 7 – Default Admin Survey, Raf Waites: • Administrator names • Grade level assignments • Mailbox for each administrator

  11. Blocked Emails • Gaggle Human Monitoring • 1st Offense • Student Notified (warning) • 2nd Offense • Student Notified and Admin Notified (discipline) • 3rd Offense • Student Notified and Admin Notified (discipline and account suspended)

Initial Student Roll-out • Acceptable Use Policy is KEY • Homeroom provides AUPs to students • Student returns AUP to homeroom teacher • Homeroom teacher provides Gaggle Activation letter • Homeroom teachers provide AUPs to Office • Office checks AUP field in Eagle • Gaggle Automatically Activates overnight • Students Log-in Following Day: • Username: first_last@myabcusd.org • Password: yyyymmdd (student’s birth date) • Student Changes Password Immediately • Student enters personal email for PW reset functions

Adding New Students • Acceptable Use Policy is KEY • Office provides AUP to student • Student returns AUP to school • Student is provided Generic Gaggle activation letter • School office checks AUP field in Eagle • Gaggle automatically activated overnight • Students may Log-in following day using: • Username: first_last@myabcusd.org • Password: yyyymmdd (student’s birth date) • Student changes password immediately • Student provides personal email for reset functions
