  1. Australian Aboriginals By: Sarah Jayyousi 8B

  2. Introduction • I will be talking about the impact on Aboriginal people and the colonization that happened from the Europeans. And how the Aboriginals had changed as people before ,during and present day. Here are the three topics that I will be talking about: • Traditions • Family Separation • Diseases

  3. Traditions • Before: They would hunt for animals to eat. And have special dances and play music with special instrument such as a didgeridoo. All of this was important to them because it was part of their culture. • During: The Aboriginals were not allowed anymore to have ceremonies or any of their traditions because the Europeans wanted to remove the Aboriginal blood and make them become Europeans. • Present Day: Now Aboriginals have changed and some do still celebrate their traditions but they have changed and became like Australians.

  4. Example from Rabbit proof fence • Molly, Daisy and Gracie hunt and track for animals that is part of their tradition. But when they were separated they were not allowed anymore to hunt.

  5. Diseases • Before: The Aboriginal never had suffered from diseases only from skin and eye. But they had spiritual doctors which helped them get better. • During: Diseases played a important role in the indigenous society. The indigenous people had no immune system to react with these diseases which caused many of them to die. The Europeans spread diseases everywhere so the Aboriginals will die. The diseases where like Smallpox, Tuberculosis, cholera, influenza. The biggest killer was Smallpox. • Present Day: Europeans stopped doing that and had said sorry and made an agreement to stop.

  6. Family Separation • Before: Children would be born with Aboriginal blood in them. And would be normal Aboriginals. • During: Any Half-casts had to be separated from their families to breed them out. And Many children had to be separated from their families and sent to foster cares or group homes. These children were called the “Stolen Generation” • Present Day: The Europeans apologized for the Aboriginals stolen generation. And the Australians and Aboriginals celebrate the day called Sorry Day.

  7. Example from Rabbit proof Fence • Molly, Daisy and Gracie were half-casts and had to be separated in order to breed the black out. And so children during colonization had to do be separated from their families. And would have to act like Europeans.

  8. Conclusion • The Europeans impacted a lot on the Aboriginals because they have changed their lifestyle and changed their identity . Also the they have made them lose their culture and who they are. • But looking into other side the Europeans impacted positively on Aboriginals living conditions and a better life standards and education and health .
