Bellringer – Day 2 – Mean of Casualties in 3 Major Battles of the American Revolution • Academic Language • Data Set: a group of information put together for a reason • Mean: Average • Add up all important information and divide it by the number of things added up • Casualties: Number of service people who stopped participating because of death, illness, being captured or injury • Battle of Lexington and Concord • 1st battle of the American Revolution • Battle of Saratoga • Considered the “turning point” in the American Revolution • French joined forces with colonists American colonists’ victory • Helped out tremendously in war effort • Battle of Yorktown • Final battle of the American Revolution where British General Cornwallis surrenders to General George Washington

Bellringer – Day 2 – Mean of Casualties in 3 Major Battles of the American Revolution • How the U.S. History Team would do it • American Colonists first: • 88+130+252 = 470 • 470/3 = 156.67 • British • 300+6,570+8,642 = 15,512 • 15,512/3 = 5,170.67 • The Americans lost approximately 157 casualties on average and the British lost approximately 5,171 casualties on average in the three major battles of Lexington and Concord, Saratoga, and Yorktown.
