E N D
What SOLs will your child be taking? • Reading – comprehension and literary strategies • Mathematics – Level 4 ALL students • VA Studies – VA History (1600’s to 2000’s) and VA Geography
Where to start… • Preparation BEGINS at home. • What your child should be bringing home • Study SKILLS • Eating right during testing • Getting plenty of rest during testing
How can you help your child study OTHER than using the book?!?!?!? • TALK to them about what they are learning. • Have your child “teach” you. • Interactive Notebooks and Binders • STUDY ISLAND • Online sites
Talk with your child… • Ask them what they reviewed today. • Ask them what NEW material they discussed today. • Ask them about concepts that still confuse them. Clarify if you feel comfortable…Ask US, using the agenda, if you do not.
Have your child teach you… • Becoming the teacher allows your child to review and study in a FUN way. • Make sure that the material they are teaching you is RIGHT! Have the book out and double check the facts they tell you! • Have them PROVE their explanation.
Interactive Notebooks and Binders… • Notes given using the Interactive Notebook and Binder are OFTEN NOT in the textbook. • Make sure the child is reviewing the information in these NIGHTLY. • Make CONNECTIONS with your child about classroom discussions they have participated in and the material you are reviewing with them.
STUDY ISLAND…www.studyisland.com • In school, your child is using an ONLINE resource known as Study Island…this is an excellent resource that your child can access at home as well. • Do you know how to get on the site? Does your child know how to USE the site? Ask them?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! • Are they using this site at home?
