  2. What is EUMETRep ? • Established in 2006 as joint liaison office • Funded through dedicated trust fund • Covered by MoU • Update/upgrade in 2010 • New MoU • EUMETSAT • Hopefully extended until end 2013

  3. What for? • Basic objectives/ achievements • Timely availability of information and analyses: delivered through monthly reports and Europe reports • Increased awareness of EU bodies of responsibilities and capabilities of EMI: global profile raised and concrete achievements in terms of improved relationship

  4. Which philosophy? • Develop a balanced partnership, mutually beneficial: EU is not just a “donor” • Propose support of Met for implementation of EU’s policies. “Don’t ask what Europe could do for you but what you could do for EU” …With its support!

  5. How to maximise our efficiency? • Using more the Brussels Liaison office (distribution of monthly reports?) • Working/ lobbying upstream and in Capitals • Being proactive and invest in mid long term • Being coordinated (Met Community)

  6. Which funding opportunities? • FP7 and follow up: • Consultation June 2011 • Budget proposal • EC Communication on Future of R&D • GMES: • current debate on post 2013 budget proposal • MS reaction • EP reaction • EEA cost assessment study • Other EU policies (Enlargement, structural funds, neighbouring policy,…): overview being prepared by RAVI SDP WG TTEUP

  7. Which main obstacles? • Heavy administrative work • Co-funding requirements • Length of process • Competition (no guarantee of success) • IPR rules

  8. How to proceed? • Identify project • Discuss with NCP and EUMETRep (early phase) • Identify partners • Identify EC target/ call? • Meeting(s) with EC (at different levels) • Follow up in Brussels
