  1. The main causes of IVF failure

  2. The main causes of IVF failure IVF failure is not uncommon and there could be a number of reasons behind it. Most couples who are facing infertility problems opt for IVF treatment. However, many of them face IVF failure and wonder why. At times the doctors can identify some possible causes for the IVF failure, but there are times when IVF failure just cannot be medically explained. IVF failure for hopeful couples is very disheartening. After putting in so much time and effort they had placed all their hope in the success of this IVF cycle. They are plagued with many questions in their mind. Would it have made a difference had they done things differently, if they would have rested more, eaten more fruits, been more regular with their vitamins etc.… The ‘what ifs’ are endless, but regret is futile. What every couple needs to keep in mind is that a doctor ensures that the conditions are perfect before proceeding with the IVF procedure. Even though some couples may feel that the doctor could be at fault, but this is rarely the case especially in large reputed fertility clinics like Medicover Fertility, which operate on international standards. (The possibility of IVF failure due to improper facilities and infrastructure of the clinic might be encountered in small ill equipped fertility clinics)

  3. The main causes of IVF failure Some of the more common causes of IVF failure: Embryo quality: A healthy embryo is the result of a healthy egg and a healthy sperm. The health of both partners is very important for good quality egg and sperm. Following a health regime before the eggs and sperm are extracted is usually recommended. Sperm takes 90 days to grow and mature. For healthy sperm the male partner needs to ensure that he maintains a healthy nutritious diet and healthy lifestyle habits for a minimum of 3 months prior to the IVF procedure. Similarly the quality of the female eggs can be improved with a healthy lifestyle and good diet. Poor ovarian response: For the IVF procedure the ovaries are stimulated to produce more eggs for ovulation. Many times women have poor ovarian response where their ovaries do not respond as expected to the medication they are given for ovarian stimulation. It results in very few or no eggs or poor quality of eggs. This is commonly seen in women who have high FSH levels or women with low Antral Follicle Counts. The overall general health of a woman can also impact ovarian response. Implantation failure: Implantation is the final stage of the IVF procedure. The embryo is fertilised in the lab with the egg and sperm taken from bother partners. This embryo then needs to be placed in the woman’s uterus. Some of the common factors that may hinder the embryo implantation are polyps, cysts, poor blood flow and thin lining among various other conditions.

  4. The main causes of IVF failure Age of female: There is not much that can be done about the age of the patient. However for an older woman wanting to have a baby it is imperative to be in the peak of health. Factors such as a healthy diet and proper sleep make a lot of difference to a patient’s physical wellbeing. Reducing stress, avoiding smoking and alcohol can help to keep a woman’s body younger and make it a more conducive environment for pregnancy. The general statistics rule that the percentage of implantation success in women under the age of 35 is 50% while the implantation success rate of women between the ages of 41-42 years is greatly reduced to just about 12%. Suitable preparation for the IVF procedure by a couple includes improving lifestyle habits – proper sleep routine and eliminating habits such as smoking, alcohol and any foods that can impair fertility and negatively affect your health like cold drinks and fast foods. A healthy nutritious diet that is rich in antioxidants and stimulates fertility is greatly recommended.
