GFOI Data Product definitions GFOI has defined a number of thematic forest information products that can be derived from a combination of satellite and ground measurement data (and other data sources, if available) and that are deemed useful for national forest monitoring and tracking of forest carbon. The products are compliant with IPCC and UNFCCC information requirements. SDCG-2 USGS HQ @ Reston (Va) USA Sept 13-14, 2012

Confirmation of high level information requirements Input from IPCC and UNFCCC • We are seeking to understand – from a space data coordination perspective – what the GFOI information requirements entail, and how these can be translated into technical specifications that should guide us in the development of an appropriate set of coordinated satellite data acquisition plans (i.e. the CEOS Data Strategy). Ultimately, we need to understand the optimal use of each of the available satellite sensors, and for each sensor, the geographical coverage, repeat frequency, and the appropriate observation mode(s).   5. Modification of Product Definitions GFOI Methods & Guidance Document (MGD) Authors’ meeting was held in Tromsoe, Norway, in June 2012. MGD group chaired by IPCC GPG lead author Jim Penman New structure adopted for the GFOI Data Products (Horizon  Category) GFOI Data Product definitions developed by a group with representatives from IPCC, GEO-FCT and GOFC-GOLD.
