Overview • Technology in a LOTE classroom • Blackboard • Online activities/helpers/Websites • Language specific links
¡Bienvenidos! • Katie Hedges • Spanish 3, AP 4, AP 5 • Academy of Irving ISD
Technology in a LOTE classroom • Scanners • Digital Camera • Video Camera • Microsoft Word • Microsoft Power Point • Microsoft Paint • Microsoft Front Page • Web camera • Moviemaker
Why use technology? • Student can work on specific topics at his/her own pace. • Immediate feedback on most on-line practice sites. • Differentiated learning. • Different approach to language acquisition. • Internet available 24/7- students don’t have to rely on just teacher time in classroom.
Scanners • Scan in artwork to use in a presentation, worksheets to send to a kid through email or just to store on your computer, pictures etc. • Can scan magazines too- share resources!
Digital Camera • Record projects, fun moments, field trips etc. • Don’t have to be fancy- mine is really basic. • Send pictures to parents of what kids are doing in class.
Video Camera • Record skits, plays, presentations. • Wedding, newscasts, talk-shows… • The microphone can be tricky so make sure you practice first- otherwise you might not get great sound!
Microsoft Word • Here is a way students can record themselves: • Open a Word document. • Choose INSERT, then OBJECT. • Scroll down to choose Wave Sound. • To record, click red button. • Will record for 60 seconds- can keep pushing red button for more time if necessary.
Microsoft Word- cont. • Internet scavenger hunt • This can be used for vocabulary, literary items, grammar stuff etc…
Power Point • Lots of uses for this program. • Some can be downloaded from the internet for use in class. • Teachers have created reviews for their classes with these. • I have students take screen shots of games they play on the internet. • *student example* Stories
Example of student score… they copy the screen and paste it on a power point slide…
Microsoft Paint • Student examples:
Front Page • You can create your own website with Microsoft Front Page. • Can post class assignments, links to helpful sites etc. • I can post examples of student work on the website as well as notes and videos.
Web camera • The web camera can be used to take still pictures. • It can also be used to tape people if they will be absent for a speaking test or their part in a play. download
Moviemaker • Easy to use tutorials can help teach the students how to use it. • Can be used for vocabulary, grammar, culture, history etc. • Students like it because they can personalize it. movie
Latin, French, Spanish, German Blackboard
Assignments • Create assignment, student turns it in the same place, it goes into the grade book. • When graded, student will be able to see their grade under “View Grades” under “Tools”. • Can grade things all at once- different from the digital drop box…
Groups, Glossary • Students can be organized into groups on Blackboard. This is good for projects where you want them to share large files… • Students turn in their work on the File Exchange- everyone in the group will have access to it… • Glossary- helpful for the class vocabulary.
