CLF Inset day 6th July 2012 Progression through engagement leading outstanding outcomes in in mathematics. Faye Crocker AST/SLE – Castle school Sue Palmer AST/SLE – Bristol Brunel Academy.
You will need: a ruler a sharp pencil a compass a protractor post-it note objectives: ? Grade: ? Outcomes?
p 130o
p q 130o
On your post-it notes write down your name and what you think the value of 'q' is. Be prepared to justify your answer. Stick it to the board. p O q 130o
Before we start ... What do you know about circles? Label me ... chord diameter Circumference radius O sector tangent segment arc
Draw a quadrilateral ... Measure each angle. (Write these on). Is there anything you can say about the angles?
Now draw a circle. Then add a quadrilateral (any) to the circle. Measure the angles. What do you notice?
p q s r a b SCN_0008.pdf circle theorems Investigate the following:- d y c f w v z e x j f h i g
Cabri II Plus.exe objectives: ? Grade: ? How did we discover these? Outcomes: Theorems: angles in a semi-circle angles in a cyclic quadrilateral angles at the centre of a circle angles in the same segment (bow-tie) alternate segments (wind-surfer)
Was this what you wrote down? Back to the original problem:- p O q 130o O is the centre of the circle p = 180o - 130ocyclic = 50o q = 2 x p angle at centre = 2x angle at circ. = 100o
