  1. Cottenham Village College Welcome to Post 16 Information Evening Thursday 10 October 2019

  2. Options at 16+ Continue with full-time education Start an apprenticeship Find employment, or volunteer, combined with training/part time study

Full-time Education A levels Students study 3 subjects (sometimes 4) for 2 years IB (International Baccalaureate) Students study six subjects, three at a higher level and three at a standard level, for 2 years Vocational courses(Diplomas/Certificates) Students study a course which leads into a specific work sector for either 1 or 2 years depending on the Level Taken Opportunity to retake some GCSEs Students who achieve G3 or below in English and/or Maths will need to continue working towards their GCSE. Those with G3 need to re-take GCSE, those with G2 and below can take qualifications that lead to GCSE. Students with learning difficulties may be exempt from above but will still need to study Maths and/or English.

  6. Courses and Qualifications It is possible to combine Academic and Applied General route at some providers

  7. Apprenticeships & Work Based Learning Majority of time is spent in the workplace with time set aside to study the qualification, usually as day release or as block training. Students need to have secured an employer before they can begin a training programme. • Advanced Apprenticeship ( Level 3) • Intermediate level Apprenticeship (Level 2) • A Company’s own Training Scheme • Flexible courses for students not yet ready for the world of work Reminder – Apprenticeship Information evening: 31 October 6-7pm

Cambridge Regional College – Vocational & Technical courses at all levels, Apprenticeship study provider. The Oakes College (previously Netherhall Sixth) A levels & applied courses. Impington International College – IB, Performance School, sports scholarships in association with Histon Academy The College of West Anglia – Animal Care & Equine studies Bishop Laney (Previously Ely Sixth Form) Range of A levels and Diplomas (Norwich City Football programme) Parkside Sixth (IB) Comberton Sixth Form – A levels Cambridge Academy for Science & Technology – Range of predominately science based A levels & L3 diplomas

  11. Where are our leavers now?

Application Procedure Students all apply through the online application process Mychoice@16 Students can apply to two or more colleges in order of preference – to apply for just one college is also acceptable but it’s advisable to have a backup option For colleges outside of CAP, apply directly to the college and keep school informed. Students who are planning to do an apprenticeship, apply for a full time course in chosen sector unless employer contract secured. Students are generally interviewed by all colleges if they meet the entry requirements and comply with application criteria. Please refer to the prospectuses/staff of the college/our careers team to advise on and interview policies & entry requirements.

  14. What happens now? Open evenings: (some colleges already had these last term) Conference Day: 8 November Mock Exams – predicted grades Online application form including personal statement, projected grades and tutor reference. Deadlines - 09 December / 13 January Centre Interviews Offers

  15. After this talk…. Representatives from each of the CAP sixth forms are here to talk to you and answer any questions you may have about their centres. Guests from Form the Future, NHS and Johnson Matthey to talk about apprenticeship schemes. Please use the opportunity to make contact and collect any information that will help you to make informed choices. Make your way to the Sixth Form Atrium.
