Project : “ Extend the view ”

2. Info: They say “things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy”. Inspired by these quote I started my journey . It’s important to know that good ideas won’t always come to you — sometimes you have to go looking for them! And that’s what I did. I went to the cities that are best known in Macedonia for their traditional architecture. I was looking for something that was left as a legacy , to inspire me to do something new, something different but at the same time so similar, and one day to became my own legacy.

3. These are some of the pictures I found in the antique shops in the cities I went ,which left a really big impression on me.(from left to right: Prilep, Novo Selo and Ohrid)

4. Structure: As you have seen on the photos, in many cities in Macedonia the way of building houses in the early 19th century was very similar. Generally there were two to three storeys with a stone ground floor and upper floors of wood. These houses are characterised by numerous windows, wide porches, and belvederes. In Ohrid, due to local  climate, terrain, and geography, houses were placed close to each other and constructed to face Lake Ohrid . They are usually coloured white and are characterised by boldly arranged facades supported by consoles, wooden eaves, and several additional details.

5. Inspired by all the things I said before I’ve made a drawing of a room(from inside and outside). All the other rooms in the house should be similar to this one. On the following slides you would be able to see what I have had on my mind when I said “different but at the same time so similar” 1) The first idea I got was to use all the materials that were used on the old houses, but not only for making the new exterior design but also for the interior design.(black wood, stone, big windows and white walls)

8. bedroom • The main thing that is guilty for me naming this project “Extend the view” are the really big windows I planed all over the house. People who would live in this house should really be able to extend their view, to see the world with eyes wide open. (windows framed with dark wood, very similar to the ones on the picture)

9. office • Bright room so the work is done as better as it can. • Same as in all the other rooms, strong lines are present everywhere, in every object.

10. kitchen • Strong, elegant, white and black kitchen. Which would give very powerful effect on the house. (stone same as the one in the living room)

11. bathroom • And last but not the least, the bathroom. Made to parry on all the other rooms in the house.
