This session plan focuses on determining intrinsic hydrocarbon yields and photon efficiencies through injections of gases and calibration processes. The aim is to study hydrocarbon flux and conversion factors in reference discharges with H2/D2 injection. Experimental setups and diagnostic settings are detailed for achieving successful results.

Session plan for E 3.1.2. Intrinsic hydrocarbon yields and photon efficiencies • Motivation • Shot list (i) setup pulses (ii) C2H4 and H2 gas injections (iii) CD4 and D2 gas injections • Previous attempts (see M. Stamp – TFE meeting 3.2.2004) S. Brezinsek, M. Stamp, A. Pospieszczyk, A. Meigs
Motivation Chemical erosionyield • Determination of intrinsic hydrocarbon flux by means of an in-situ calibration with injection of hydrocarbons • Hydrocarbon flux • Methane family • Ethane family • Determination of conversion factors (D/XB-values): photon flux ~ particle flux • Dependence on the gas injection location and the strike point position • Reference discharges with H2 / D2 injection through the same GIMs!
Shot list (setup pulse) • Setup pulses: • fuelling efficiency • density matching No success in the last session due to NBI problems!
Shot list (C2H4 puff and H2 reference) GIM 11 is not available in the moment!
Pulse setup pulse 3 - 8 (2.5 MA) variable strike point position / constant gas puff through either GIM 9,10 or 12 • high clearance discharges • large sweep of strike points Scheme was successful in discharge # 62729 (C2H4 in D plasma)
Previous attempts SOL PFR vt ht Now: C2H4 injection into H! Discrimination between CH from the wall and from the C2H4 break-up is difficult!
Shot list (CD4 puff and D2 reference) Now: CD4 injection (GCD4 =2x1021 s-1) into a H plasma! Discrimination between CH from the wall and from the CD4 break-up might be possible!
