THEMIS PROBE • FM2 PRE-ENVIRONMENTAL REVIEW • EMC Test • Dave Curtis • System Engineer • University of California - Berkeley
Test Requirements • Launch Site Requirements • Test in Launch configuration with instruments off • RE02, RS03 per THEMIS ICD with Boeing • Self Compatibility Requirement • Test in plugs-out configuration with instruments on • RE02, RE04, RS03 per THEMIS Environmental Spec • Limit RE02 to science sensitivity band, 20Hz-1MHz, plus the probe receiver band 1.7-2.3GHz • Limit RS03 to probe transmitter band. Also power up transmitter to verify self-compatibility. • Test Procedures in sign-off: • THM_MINT_041. UCB Test Procedure • THEMIS_EMC_TP. JPL Facilities Procedure
Launch Site Levels Launch Mode RE02 Limit
JPL EMC Facility • Facility EMI background meets THEMIS requirements • Will have to look between 60Hz harmonics for RE04 • Low frequency RE02 (<14kHz) on a best effort basis • Facility test equipment adequate for THEMIS measurements • Frequency range, sensitivity, power, etc. • Facility size adequate for Probe and EGSE • see following section on layout of test • Probe will be fork-lifted into facility on roll-around stand (no crane) • Facility cleanliness level can meet THEMIS requirements • has been demonstrated on previous project
Launch Mode Setup • Probe connected to EGSE via Umbilical • Instruments Off (Launch Mode) • Launch Site Test Levels (RE02, RS03)
Operational Setup • Probe connected to EGSE via RF (Hat) • Instruments On (Operational Mode) • THEMIS Science Test Levels (RE02, RE04, RS03)
