RSA training of interpreters program • established by Rehabilitation Act 1978 amendments to improve access to VR • 2005 and 2010: six 5-year grant awards established National Center and 5 coordinated Regional Centers • purpose: increase number of interpreters nationwide through training developed and implemented with consumers and local partner networks

needs assessment findings • 60% of deaf individuals queried could not find an interpreter when they needed one. • approximately 25% of currently working interpreters will retire by 2017. • interpreting education graduation rates do not keep pace with rate of retirement currently.

ambassador program 236 ambassadors trained from September 2009 – October 2010 115 (48.7%) signed on as ambassadors 41 presentations as of 3/1/11 given by 32 ambassadors, audience totaled 897. 12% of audience members visit DiscoverInterpreting.com
