SELLING TECHNIQUES MODULE 2
What is wrong with this vendor? • On mobile phone • Looking at floor • Magazine not displayed properly • Slouching • Hoodie up
What is good about this vendor? • Smiling • Looking up • Tabard and badge displayed • Holding magazine up for all to see
BE HEARD • Be loud! The streets are busy and noisy, anything that lets people know you are there is a good thing. • People are more likely to buy if they can see you’re making an effort and being positive. It also means you’ve broken down the first barrier of communication. • However, there is a thin line between pro active selling and aggressive selling, so don’t go over the top!
BAD THINGS TO DO • Slouching against a wall/railing, it shows lack of enthusiasm • Stare at the ground • Have loads of mates hanging around – it’s intimidating • Scowl! Even if you’re having a bad day, glaring at people is just going to make it even worse as your sales are going plummet. It’s a vicious circle • Be on your mobile for long periods of time, again, makes you unapproachable
FUN SALES TECHNIQUES • Fancy dress! Silly but it works, it can put a smile on the face of a grumpy office worker, and cause them to reconsider buying the magazine! EVERY SALE COULD BE A POTENTIAL NEW REGULAR CUSTOMER. • Try and find out theme days/holidays etc, be topical! Even a supporters hat on match day can make a big difference.
BADGES AND TABARDS • We don’t make up rules just to make life a pain. Ok so we do but besides that, wearing your tabard and displaying your badge will increase your sales. • The public are very vigilant in identifying official vendors. Rogue vendors don’t have tabard/badges, so if yours aren’t on display your sales will be poor.
