American Cancer Society’s Lifesaving Mission Mission Statement The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service. International Mission Statement The American Cancer Society's international mission concentrates on capacity building in developing cancer societies and on collaboration with other cancer-related organizations throughout the world in carrying out shared strategic directions.
Colleges Against Cancer • What We Are About • Colleges Against Cancer (CAC) is a nationwide collaboration of college students, faculty, and staff dedicated to eliminating cancer by working to implement the programs and mission of the American Cancer Society. With hundreds of chapters nationwide, CAC is showing the world that young people care and want to make a difference. CAC is founded on four strategic directions: Advocacy, Cancer Education, Relay For Life, and Survivorship.

Stay well Providing education on cancer prevention and early detection Get well Offering support services to cancer patients and their families Find cures Investing dollars to find cancer causes, prevention methods, and possible cures Fight back Advocating for government funding of cancer research, creating smoke-free communities, and improving access to affordable, quality healthcare
Education Providing education on taking preventative measures against cancer Advocacy Promoting various petitions to promote change for cancer research Survivorship Reaching out to cancer survivors in our community for cancer research Relay For Life Planning and implementing a Relay For Life event that raises funds to promote the mission of the American Cancer Society
Through this pillar, we host events to educate the population about preventative measures against cancer • This can be achieved by advocating for a Smoke Free Campus during the Great American Smokeout, promoting breast cancer awareness, and American Cancer Society funded researcher presentations
Through this pillar, we promote various petitions to promote change for cancer research • This can be achieved by writing letters to state and national legislation, Day at the Capitol lobbying, and more
Through this pillar, we reach out to cancer survivors in our community to show our support • This can be achieved by volunteering at the Hope Lodge, maintaining relationships with survivors, or inviting survivors to Relay For Life
Through this pillar, we plan an implement a Relay For Life event that directly raises funds to impact the mission of the American Cancer Society • This can be achieved by including all aspects of the planning, hosting, and post-Relay follow-up for your CAC Chapter
Relay For Life is an all night event that can range from 12 hours to 24 hours long… Cancer never sleeps and neither do we! • Teams can be formed within a group of friends or anyone who wants to fight back against cancer. Everyone takes turns walking the track • Relay For Life has an amazing Luminaria Ceremony, activities, entertainment, food and so much more. It’s truly a life changing experience
