  2. Robbery Prevention • Robbery is defined by Colorado Revised Statutes as a person who knowingly takes anything of value from the person or the presence of another by use of force, threats, or intimidation.

  3. Robbery Prevention • In 2003, a total of 3,577 robberies were reported by law enforcement agencies in Colorado. • This is a 3.8% increase from 2002. • Robberies accounted for 6.5% of the major offenses reported in Colorado.

  4. Robbery Prevention Opening Procedures • Check your place of business first by driving by and looking for anyone or anything that is suspicious. • Pay attention to the parking lots, streets, alleyways and dark spots around your place of business.

  5. Robbery Prevention Opening Procedures • If possible, have more than one employee open. • Have your keys ready before you approach the door. • Get in as quick as possible.

  13. During A Robbery • Reassure the suspect that you will cooperate in every way. Robbers usually are excited and may be provoked easily. • Don’t be a hero; don’t take chances.

  14. During a Robbery • Give the robber only what they demand. • Stay calm. • Use dye packs, tracking devices, bait money, etc. when giving money but don’t make it obvious.

  15. During A Robbery • OBSERVE CAREFULLY • Take a good look at your suspect(s). Notice any details that will aid you in describing them and their mannerisms. • Make comparisons between them and yourself or people you know.
