Grant Objectives • Increase the number of qualified nursing faculty • Incorporate simulation technology into classroom practices • Incorporate simulation technology into professional continuing education
JCNRS Mission The mission of the Joint Center for Nursing Research and Scholarship (JCNRS) is to serve as a research and educational link between the University, Hospital and Community settings in order to establish evidence on which nurses will practice in the future. The Center will support and facilitate the education of future health care and nursing providers, teachers, leaders and researchers through the use of simulation technology.
JCNRS Vision To promote the development of healthcare educators and encourage the involvement of nurses in conducting research in the healthcare community and disseminating findings that facilitate evidence-based nursing practice.
JCNRS Goals • Increase the number of qualified nursing faculty • Develop and implement an educational program for high school students who might be interested in becoming nurses. • Develop and implement an educational initiative to prepare faculty and other nursing leaders for comprehensive clinical and curriculum related use of simulation. • Identify and further develop 4 – 5 key clinical and educational experts in the development and provision of simulation programs. • Expand utilization of simulation technology in both classroom and clinical sessions of the baccalaureate program.
JCNRS Goals (cont.) • Develop a collaborative, strategic plan with SRMC designed to increase appropriate use of the MBSON Learning Resource and Simulation Center (LR&SC) and reduce duplication and cost. • Develop a collaborative research link with SRMC and support interdisciplinary research efforts. • Support faculty research interests and facilitate their development of studies related to their clinical areas of focus.
JCNRS Goals (cont.) • Support faculty in preparing grant submissions to conduct research and/or purchase essential equipment/software. • Incorporate simulation technology into interdisciplinary professional continuing education. • Explore opportunity to offer ACLS (or similar interdisciplinary courses) in MBSON simulation lab. • Study the effects of integration of simulation technology into nursing education programs and disseminate results.
Beyond August 31, 2011 • Explore grant opportunities to continue joint education and research programs. • Expand collaborative strategies to other healthcare organizations. • Organize local nursing research institute. • Explore development of augmented reality program.
