  2. about Welcoming faiths Founded in the Spring of 2011 A coalition of LGBTQ allies, currently from 14 area Congregations. Members Are Episcopal, Jewish, Methodist, Unitarian Universalist and United Church of Christ, located in the Lower Merrimack Valley Communities of Andover, Boxford, Chelmsford, Haverhill, Lowell and North Andover. “Welcoming Faiths“ Guiding Philosophy is to: “Be the change you want to see in the world.” M.K.   3. Our MissionTo promote equality and inclusion for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning individuals and families and to reach out and assist those seeking a spiritual home. Our member congregations encourage active support for LGBTQ people and their families, assuring that they are welcomed, comfortable, and safe in every aspect of congregational life. We strive to increase the awareness of issues on equality and justice for LGBTQ persons and to serve as beacons of fairness and loving affirmation in the Merrimack Valley and beyond. There is a powerful benefit to share success and stories of each congregation as we walk to live our mission.

  4. What WE do Monthly meetings at member locations sharing ideas and ways to promote awareness. Provide resources and support to congregations at different stages on their journey towards full acceptance of LGBTQ worshipers. Congregations are varied on their journey towards full inclusion.Inform congregations of events and relevant religious services in the community.Build relationships with other local Congregations within the Coalition which includes visitation of worship and communication of events and/or special services.

Highlights of events and celebrations where “Welcoming Faiths” has been visible Raised awareness of transgender people through the film, “No Dumb Questions” Arranged and manned booths at community events such as Andover Days to raise awareness of support and inclusion for LGBTQ people from spiritual communities Hosted the Boston Gay Men’s Chorus in Haverhill MA Created a community event: “Coming Out and Keeping the Faith” at Northern Essex Community College spring 2013 *Inter-connection and relationships has bolstered enthusiasm at Welcoming Faiths events.
