  2. Motivations • Population loss in non-metro counties due to: • Increased efficiency in agriculture. • Preference for urban amenities. • Mean ages well above national average.

  3. Research Question • What is the long-run potential for demographic growth in the non-metropolitan Great Plains counties?

Conclusion • Existence of positive bi-directional relationship pair wise between net migration, wage and employment growths. • Employment prospect has a greater stimulating effect on net migration than does wage. • The impact of net migration on wage growth is more pronounced than net migration on employment growth.

  14. Extensions • Include the rest of the counties in the Great Plains. • Include taxes and government expenditures. • Extend the time frame by including more recent years.
