Jesus the Teacher • Jesus used colorful, down-to-earth language • “If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away.  And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell.” (Mt. 5:29-30) • What literary device is Jesus using here?

  3. Jesus the Teacher • Jesus loved life & related to people on their level • He went to a wedding feast and enjoyed himself • He loved eating and drinking with others so much that his enemies accused him of being a glutton and a drunk

  4. Jesus the Teacher • Jesus taught with authority • Other rabbis of Jesus’ day quoted prominent teachers; Jesus did not. • Used the word “Amen,” meaning “certainly,” at the beginning of his teachings instead of at the end • “Amen, amen, I say to you…”
