What happened? • Took place in 1545 • Church leaders (Ecumenical Council) met in the City of Trent • Discussed about what to do about the rise of Protestantism • The sale of indulgences decreased • The Catholics soon had to follow rules that the members of the church signed • Lasted until 1563

  3. Who was involved? • Pope Paul III called the meeting • Catholic church leaders attended the meeting • Discussed about the Protestants and their rise

  4. How does this event show religious disunity in Europe? • The meeting was to discuss react from the rise of Protestantism • The council members wanted to do something to keep their religion on going discarding the Protestantism • Protestants left Europe because of the persecution of religious beliefs
