  4. Looking at the hardware & peripherals In the bag • Display dongle • Dock - has lock and unlock switch on side - make sure it is unlocked! Also has eject button! • Power cords • Dock • Computer Note: There is a difference in the power cords. Note II: Optical drives (CD/DVD) will be available for check out in the library.

  5. Your existing equipment All of your current equipment: Free to keep until the end of the school year By end of May, turn in to your librarian: • the laptop, • the dock, and • both the laptop and dock power cords

  6. Your existing equipment You will not receive a new: Monitor, monitor stand, mouse and keyboard: Free to keep forever If you choose NOT to keep one/all of the above: • Submit a KACE work ticket for pickup Find a use on campus for the computer bag!

  7. Caring for the device Touchscreen: • Clean with soft, lint free towel • Use cleaners specifically designed for touchscreen - spray onto CLOTH, never screen • Clean only when powered down (OFF)

Caring for the device Battery maintenance: • Let battery run down all the way the first few times before plugging it in and charging it back to 100% • Try NOT to have the computer docked all the time. New Haswell chip - The ability of the computer to work off the battery increases dramatically. However, you can control the brightness of the screen with the up/down arrows & Fn key.

  10. Classic Shell Our recommendations: • Don’t change anything here - leave as Windows 7 type If you receive notice that Classic Shell needs to be updated, wait until later to do so...it requires your computer to restart, so not the best thing to do during this training!

  11. Classic Shell Basic Settings: Control what happens when you • Left Click • Shift+Click • Windows Key • … Recommendation: Leave as is and change as you experience Windows 8

  12. Digital Signature of Receipt Launch Chrome - Make it your default browser or not https://tscheckout.springbranchisd.com/ Before you click submit, verify: the Dell Service Tag # (Serial #), on the label on top of computer the SBISD FAS # on the bottom of the computer!

  13. Outlook Read and follow the directions. You should not need to type in any information. Personal Folders: you’ll need to know where they are File>Open & Export>Open Outlook Data File

  15. Getting to your SAN folder • Select the File Explorer icon from the Task Bar. • Then, select This PC or expand to show locations in the pane navigation.
