Year 3 Approach • Inquiry–based approach to learning (Development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside, is a framework guided by 6 themes of global significance.) • Children have individual needs and are at varying places in their learning and development • Learning is not a competition or a race • Develop greater independence alongside group and social skills and awareness • ICT is used throughout all curriculum areas • The core curriculum areas are: Maths – English – Inquiry - Chinese
Inquiry • Term 1: • Central ideas: • Inquiry 1 • Choices we make can affect our health • Inquiry 2 • Science exploration helps us to understand our world. • To support your child in curriculum areas, please regularly refer to the Year 3 section of ‘The Buzz’. • This term’s inquiry unit is linked to making healthy choices. As part of this we will be encouraging the students to eat healthy snacks and lunches throughout the year. • Children need a personal water bottle to ensure they get • adequate water throughout the school day. • (Please note Bradbury is a nut free school).

There will be a hand-in date on each homework (usually the Wednesday before the next homework is handed out).Homework may include an inquiry project, reading, spelling, research, writing, Mathematics, games or ICT.Occasionally, incomplete work may be sent home to finish.
How you can help • Promote independence • Provide a quiet working space for homework to be carried out. Homework is handed in on time. • Packing their own bag • Message awareness • Responsibilities at home • Help your child check that their homework is carried out • Your child should know • What the day of the week and month is • Their date of birth • Their phone number • Their last name • Where they live • What they have for snack and lunch • What their end of day arrangements are • * Ensure your child has enough sleep
Parent Involvement • Class parent • Each class has a class representative. • If you wish to be a class helper, supporting small group work and activities– please see the sign up sheet. • Educational visits (parents only). • Occasional help i.e. art lessons, props for assembly, bringing in food for special events, backing new books, etc. • Present to classes an area of expertise to come into class to present e.g. doctors, dentists, nutritionists. • Sending things into school e.g. newspapers and magazines.
