Zeus This here is Zeus, the king of the gods and the mortals. Zeus is sort of the head god. He’s married to his sister Hera (a family tradition) and his brothers are Poseidon and Hades. He’s the god of the sky and storms.
Athena Athena is Zeus’ daughter and Odysseus’ ally. She is the goddess of intelligence, war, and weaving. The owl on the pillar is her symbol. The shield and mask next to her represent her abilities in war. She appreciates Odysseus for his cunning abilities and his skill in telling believable stories.
Aeolus Aeolus is the god of wind. He gave Odysseus a bag of winds to help him get to his home land of Ithaca. But Odysseus’ men believe this is a bag of golds and opens it, sending them way back when they were just two miles, if even, from their home.
Calypso Calypso was a sea nymph whose father was the Titan god Atlas. She imprisoned Odysseus on his way home to Ithaca. There he stayed for eight years. Finally Athena asked Zeus to have Calypso set him free. Zeus sent Hermes, the messenger god, to tell Calypso, and since Zeus was the head of the gods, she couldn’t refuse, and set him free.
Well, as it says here, this is Eris, the Greek goddess of discord. She threw her Apple of Discord, her most trusted weapon, into the crowd of the wedding of Peleus and Thetis because she hadn’t been invited. On the apple it read, “For the fairest”. Naturally, all the goddesses at the wedding wanted the apple, believing they were the fairest. Zeus, trying to be diplomatic, wouldn’t decide between them, so he called for Paris to decide. All the goddesses promised him different gifts, but he chose Aphrodite's…
Aphrodite Aphrodite is the Greek goddess of love and beauty. It’s because of her the war of Troy was started. She claimed to be the fairest that the Apple of Discord had been speaking of, and Paris chose her. She rewarded him with the most beautiful wife, Helen of Troy, but dearest Helen was already married to King Menelaus!! And so Menelaus started the Trojan War, sending Odysseus off on his battle that kept him from home for twenty long years.
