  1. Field exercise test and selection

  2. Relations between physiological variables and performance • Aim : verify the hypothesis of a relationship between V4/V200 and some variables of race performanc : earnings, best time and ITR • 225 horses from 3 to 8 year old, in optimal condition, separated in 3 groups according age and ITR (>120 : elite, 100-120 : medium, <100 : poor) • Performance during the year of the test • Variance analysis (age et level of perf).

  7. Corrélations

  8. Results • Close relationship between physiological variables and level of performance • V4 > V200 • 3 – 4 ans > 5 – 6 ans et +

  9. Discussion • Large population • Strong variability of level of performance • Control of factors de variation (physical condition, conditions of the test) • Agree with studies using others performance criterias (Couroucé et al., 1997, Casini et Greppi, 1996, Davie et al., 2002) • Correlations higher : french specificity?

  10. Conclusion • V4 et V200 strongly correlated to different criterias of performance • Young horses in particuliar • Interesting before sales • Publication : « Relationship between physiological variables and race performance in french Standardbred trotters » Veterinary Record (2005)
