Rev 12Why is Satan in heaven in the first place?Satan still has access to the throne of God
[Read] Job 1-2What Satan did with Job he is free to do with any of us. Satan accuses, but we have an advocate with the father, Jesus Christ is our lawyer sent to defend us.
Rev 12 last chapter of Satan’s power to do what was described in Job. • There is coming a day in the future according to the Book of Revelation when he (Satan) will no longer be permitted the freedom to come inot the presence of God and accuse us. • 12:7: war in heaven and the great dragon cast out
Rev 12 last chapter of Satan’s power to do what was described in Job. • There is coming a day in the future according to the Book of Revelation when he (Satan) will no longer be permitted the freedom to come inot the presence of God and accuse us. • 12:7: war in heaven and the great dragon cast out; about to be expelled from heaven • Overcame him by the blood of the lamb, by the word of their testimony and they love not their life unto death
Satan cast down to the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child • V 9, names/terms to describe: dragon, old serpent, the devil and satan and the deceiver • Two names for Satan, one an OT name and one a NT name. Satan is basically an OT name and Devil is basically a NT name although both are found in each place • Sin caused him to fall was “pride”; he tried to exalt himself above God
Confined to eartyh, but still had access to God • OT term Satan was designated specifically to this adversary although it was not uniquely his when it was given to him by the Lord • Devil in NT: “Diabolis”--literally a slanderer; tempter in the NT; Devil constantly trying to do the people of God in • Puts scheme of betrayal in Judas’ mind • He tries to make Peter fall from his (Luke 22) responsibility in the Lord’s plan
Acts 5: Put it in the heart of Ananias to lie • Ephesians 6 • 2 Cor • Luke 13:16 • Mark 4:15 • His purpose is to “destroy” and thus he is the enemy of God • Ruler of the world with access at present time to throne of God
Luke 22: Jesus said “Satan hath sought to take you Peter, but I have prayed fro you” • That is what Jesus is doing for us in heaven today. As Satan accuses us, he represents us • Not able to prevail against Michael and cast out
Three things happen when Satan is thrown out from heaven: • Praise in heaven • Persecution on earth • Protection from God • 27:10: Loud voice, now is come salvation and the powerr of oour Christ . . . For the accuser has been cast down • (Chapter 6:10) loud voice is one of the martyrs crying out this hymn
Good news, leaving heaven, bad news coming to earth • Martyrs able to overcome Satan by a three-fold program: they overcame him by the blood of the lamb, by the witness of their testimony, and their willingness to die or take the death for their faith (Rev. 2 and 3, “overcomers”) • 12:11: way you overcome through this same three-fold plan
Power over Satan is the shed blood of Jesus Christ • Because we are “christs” we can plead the blood against him, we know that what Jesus did on the cross is the final authority over Satan and he had no right to us and he is a doomed adversary • Word of their testimony--refers to spoken testimony--spoke openly • Didn’t care if their testimony meant their death
Only if you are willing to give up your life do you get it back in the first place • Heaven, Satan purged, he is gone. They praise. • V 12b through end of Chapter 12. Persecutions. • Satan knows he is doomed and his days are over; career rapidly coming to a close
Realizing he doesn’t have much time left he assaults the people; it is aggravated assault • He has great “wrath”--a strong passion or emotion--weight of absolute emotion • Stems from his own awareness that his days are numbered • Raging because he feels the end near; throws his death struggle into all his movements
Hopelessly depraved and nothing but absolute force can cure his devil nature • Fury into a total and aggressive assault • Secondly an Anti-Semitic assault: “Persecuted the woman.” The woman is Israel; the Jews are responsible for Jesus Christ and Satan has been after the Jews since day one • God has him in control and he is ultimately doomed
Behind the persecution of the Jews is Satan who is doing everything he can to destroy the Jewish people • Thirdly, aggressive assault. V.15. “Carried away from the flood.” Probable interpretation to describe aggressive assault against the nation of Israel • Fourthly, angry assault. V.17. Angry at the Jewish nation, angry at the remnant of the Jewish nation, second anger individualized anger against those Jews who keep testimony of Jesus Christ, the remnant
Protection of God. V14,16. “To the woman were given two wings of the great evil . . .” God will take his people to a special fortress of place and supernaturally care for them and nourish them there for a certain time • Time: “A time and times and half a time.” The way the Jewish people would describe 3 1/2. A time (1 year plus), plus times (2 years), plus half a time (1/2 a year). Israel’s suffering in 3 1/2 years, the last half of the seven year tribulation period • Rev 11:2, 3: Tread unto foot 42 months=3 1/2 years; prophesy 1,260 days = 3 1/2 years
God has a time period, God has a certain period of time that he does things according to his plan • Though he allows him (Satan) to exist he deals with him in his own time • Satan has set has throne high, but God has set his higher • Satan is mighty, but God is almighty • Satan can destroy, but God can destroy the destroyer • Satan is free, but God will shut him in at last so that he will no longer harm our hurt his holy ones • In his own time, God will de-throne Satan and all this was the vision of Christ when he was on this earth . . . “Now will the prince of the world be cast out”
