OBJECTIVES • To review: • 2000 safety projects • 2001 safety projects • Position of safety activities
REVIEW OF 2000 SAFETY PROJECTS • Electrical Committee: • Revised “Electrical safety code” to be published mid-2001. • Revised “Area classification code for petroleum installations” to be published summer / autumn 2001. • Revised “Guidelines on hazards arising from static electricity” available shortly.
REVIEW OF 2000 SAFETY PROJECTS • Aviation Committee: • New API/IP “Guidance on the cleaning of aviation hydrant systems” published. • Revised API/IP “Specifications and qualification procedures - aviation fuel filter monitors with absorbent type elements” published. • Revised API/IP “Four-inch hydrant system components and arrangements” to be published spring 2001.
REVIEW OF 2000 SAFETY PROJECTS • Distribution and Marketing Safety Committee: • New IP/LPGA “Storage and dispensing of LPG as an automotive fuel at petrol filling stations” published. • Work by HSE/HSL on evaluation of benefits of fitting fire engulfment pressure relief on mobile tanks has commenced. • “Pocket guide to safety for personnel working on oil installations” published.
REVIEW OF 2000 SAFETY PROJECTS • Upstream activities: • Phase 3B Fire and Blast Protection (JIP). • Medium and large scale experiments complete. • Realistic release tests on large scale module generally generate much lower peak overpressures than worst-cases. • Tests included effect of blast on adjacent structures - analysis progressing. • Report mid-2001

2001 SAFETY PROJECTS • Electrical Committee: • Area classification - publish and launch Code.
2001 SAFETY PROJECTS • Aviation Committee: • Research / testing evaluating nitrogen inerting of aircraft tanks. • Development of guidance on water testing aviation fuel hydrant systems. • Research into effects of lubricity additives on jet fuel.
2001 SAFETY PROJECTS • Distribution and Marketing Safety Committee: • Road tankers: development of anti-rollover training aid. • Road tanker incident response: development of code of practice.
2001 SAFETY PROJECTS • Refinery Safety Project: • Update to Refinery Safety Code - to be reallocated to update of bulk LPG Code.
2001 SAFETY PROJECTS • Upstream Safety Project: • Update to PARLOC database.
