  7. Standardized Testing and STAR Reporting • This is our last year of STAR testing. After this school year, there will be no more paper and pencil, multiple choice, one letter answer questions. • Preparing for the change through (MAP) Measures of Performance testing, which will eventually lead us to Smarter Balance testing. • Eventually using Smarter Balance testing to evaluate student growth. This will replace STAR next year. • Switching from California State Standards to Common Core State Standards

  8. MAP Testing • Measures of Academic Progress • Understanding each student’s academic level gives teachers the power to help them excel. MAP computerized adaptive assessments are the tools that make it possible – providing educators with the detailed information they need to build curriculum and meet their students’ needs, one child at a time. • Administered 3 times a year: September, December, March • http://vimeo.com/63121629

  9. Smarter Balance Testing • Last year 4-6 grade students were part of Smarter Balance Testing. • The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium is developing next-generation assessments aligned to the Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts/Literacy (ELA/literacy) and Mathematics for grades 3-8 and 11. Assessments usecomputer adaptive testing technologies to the greatest extent possible to provide meaningful feedback and actionable data that teachers and other educators can use to help students succeed. • What does this look like? • http://sampleitems.smarterbalanced.org/itempreview/sbac/index.htm

  10. Project Based Learning • Thanks to our PTO, the teachers here at Del Dayo had 3 days of training from the Buck Institute last June. • In Project Based Learning (PBL), students go through an extended process of inquiry in response to a complex question, problem, or challenge. Rigorous projects help students learn key academic content and practice 21st Century Skills (such as collaboration, communication & critical thinking, research, use of technology). • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMCZvGesRz8
