  4. Simile A comparison between two things that are basically dissimilar using “like” or “as” to make the comparison.

  5. “Those kids are as cute as kittens.” Simile What does it mean? AAAWWWWHHHHH….too cute! What is being compared?

  6. Metaphor A comparison between two things that are basically dissimilar in which one thing becomes another.

  7. Metaphor What is being compared? to A bunch of men Rain What does it mean? “It’s raining men!” There are many guys from which to pick!

  8. Personification The act of giving human qualities to something that is not human.

  9. Personification My computer is sick!

  10. Alliteration The repetition of similar consonant sounds within a phrase or sentence.

  11. Alliteration Carrie's cat clawed her couch, creating chaos.

  12. Repetition The act of repeating words or phrases for dramatic effect.

  13. “A horse is a horse, of course, of course,And no one can talk to a horse of courseThat is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister Ed.” Repetition

  14. Imagery (sensory detail) Images and / or details that emphasize our senses (sight, sound, smell, taste, touch) to recreate a scene for the reader.

  15. The girl ran her hands on a soft satin fabric. Imagery Sense of touch He whiffed the aroma of brewed coffee. Sense of smell
