By the end of third grade, students are expected to develop deep understandings in multiplication and division, fractions, area, and elapsed time. They will also practice narrative, informational, and opinion writing, explore various reading types, study physical science and regions of Georgia in social studies, and prepare for Georgia Milestones testing in math and reading. We are excited to teach your child and look forward to a fabulous year together!

Welcome to Curriculum Night Third Grade
Math • By the end of third grade, students are expected to develop the following deep understandings: • multiplication and division. • Develop understanding of fractions as numbers. • Understand concepts of area and relate area to multiplication and to addition. • Elapsed time
Writing During the year children will be taught and will write in the three intents: • Narrative writing • Informational writing • Opinion writing
Reading In third grade, the reading program is composed of a variety of reading types. These include: • Realistic Fiction • Historical Fiction • Poetry • Plays • Folktales • Myths • Non-fiction
Science In Science, third graders will learn about: Phyical Science Rocks & Minerals Regions of Georgia
Social Studies • Government-basic functions, roles in society, etc. • Money Management strategies-learning about producers, consumers, and budgets
Testing • The third graders will be taking the Georgia Milestones in April. • The subjects that will be covered are math and reading. • Testing will consist of multiple choice and brief constructed responses where evidence needs to be provided.
